Mother Nature's Compostable Sponge

Loofah sponges have been around for a long time.

With the invention of plastic, we have seen an increase in products made from oil-based plastics. This synthetic material has created a waste issue due to its non-biodegradable nature which means unfortunately the products are not compostable or eco-friendly.

As we all become more environmentally conscious, we are seeing a trend back towards eco-friendly products which support Mother Nature. Loofah sponges are making a comeback.

Loofah is a plant, making it 100% compostable and eco-friendly. The common household sponges are made from oil-based plastics that are not biodegradable and will take thousands of years to decompose in landfill.

As a sponge, Loofah is ideal for cleaning due to its fibrous nature. Dish sponges are great for dish-ware and non-stick cookware while body scrubbers are ideal to exfoliate and cleanse the skins. Mother Nature is looking after our wellbeing as we look after hers by using Loofah.

Like all sponges (natural or synthetic), care must be taken to avoid bacteria build up on these sponges. We can achieve this by thoroughly rinsing our sponges and allowing them to dry out after each use. In the kitchen, we can hang these over the sink and it should dry out. In the bathroom this can be a bit tricky as most bathrooms are closed off and not well-ventilated. If this is the case, we suggest hanging the sponge outside the shower or bathing area and providing air circulation in the form of opening windows or door to assist with the drying period.

Remember, Loofah sponges are compostable which makes them extremely eco-friendly, and in these times, that is extremely important.

By making a small change and switching to an eco-friendly product, we can help reduce our home plastic footprint and support Mother Nature.
